Your Fertility Preservation Introduction

The first step of your consultation is an educational one-on-one telehealth appointment with one of our male fertility specialists. At this appointment, we’ll provide counseling and share fertility insights with you to help address your fertility preservation needs. In addition, we will use the call as an opportunity to:

• Learn more about the specifics of your gender-affirming care plans (e.g., tucking, medical hormone therapy, surgeries, etc.)
• Communicate evidence-based research to you on the factual fertility impacts of gender-affirming care
• Help you understand our semen analysis process and what needs to be done to successfully freeze and store your sperm
• Discuss the top options to use your frozen sample (e.g., IUI, IVF, donor eggs, surrogacy, etc.)

Sample Collection, Evaluation, and Testing

Next, we will ship an at-home semen collection kit to your door. All you need to do is follow the simple instructions to complete your sample and return it in the mail.

All of our semen samples are sent to a renowned academic university and CLIA-certified andrology laboratory. That lab will conduct a sustainability evaluation of your semen sample, which is also called a “freeze-thaw” test. This evaluation provides data on how your sperm will survive in freezing conditions and the thawing process. It essentially establishes the future usability of your sperm. Our partnering lab will conduct additional infectious disease testing that is recommended by the FDA and required by fertility clinics for future sperm use.

Your Fertility Preservation Review

We’ll conclude your consultation for fertility preservation in Indiana with a final follow-up telehealth appointment. At this meeting, your assigned male fertility expert will share the details about your semen analysis. They will additionally outline the most appropriate next steps or infertility treatments to support your journey. If needed, we will additionally communicate any test results with your provider(s) of choice.

At your follow-up fertility preservation appointment, we’ll provide:

• A detailed review and interpretation of your semen analysis results.
  • For any abnormal semen analysis results, our team will go over potential underlying causes and will provide a custom male fertility treatment plan.
• A discussion on your freeze-thaw results and what they mean.
  • We will also learn if your sperm quantity is sufficient for conception. If not, additional sperm samples may need to be frozen.
• A personalized fertility preservation plan to help you achieve your long-term goals.
• Follow-up recommendations for the remainder of your gender-affirming care plan.
