Beware Low-Cost Providers 

Lower price points may sound appealing, but it’s important to keep in mind that cheaper is not always better. A low quote for a vasectomy reversal may be intentionally misleading, and it may not include all the associated fees and costs for things like the anesthesia or the surgery center. 

In addition, a lower price point may suggest that the provider cuts corners or lacks the same level of training or experience as other providers. For the most optimal chances of success, it’s best to find a fellowship-trained microsurgeon who is trained in male reproductive health and has extensive experience with vasectomy reversal procedures. 

Can Insurance Cover the Costs of My Vasectomy Reversal?

Even if your insurer provided coverage for your initial vasectomy (when completed as an outpatient procedure), it is unlikely that your insurer will cover the reversal operation.

Most medical insurance plans and policies do not cover vasectomy reversal procedures. Unfortunately, many insurance coverage providers do not view the procedure as “medically necessary” and classify vasectomy reversals as “elective” procedures.

That said, some providers of medical insurance will cover a portion of the costs of a vasectomy reversal. It’s best to call your insurance carrier ahead of your first consultation to check if your plan will cover an “outpatient microsurgical vasovasostomy.”
